Monster Hunter Is Getting Its Own AR Game

The beloved franchise has partnered with Niantic to create its own AR game. Niantic is the studio behind the hit game Pokemon Go which blew up in popularity a few years back.

Monster Hunter Now will be the latest addition to Niantic’s AR endeavors. The gaming will follow the same “here and now hunting experience” to match the Monster Hunter theme. Registration for the beta program will begin on the 18th of April. We have a hunch that the beta app will launch on the 25th of April. The game is scheduled to go live on the 23rd of September, with the publisher being Niantic. The licensing will be done through the Japanese entertainment giant Capcom.

A recent webinar hosted by the development and publishing teams shed some light on the game. It’s obviously difficult to simplify a game like Monster Hunter into an AR title, but they heartily go through it! The game will lose some of its mechanics in development, but they promised to introduce newer ones to make up for it!

Players will be able to take on classic monsters, such as the Great Jagras, in their habitats.

There will also be a feature where the player is able to throw a paintball at the monster. This will enable the player to battle monsters at a later time! This is a massive improvement over what’s currently in Niantic’s Pokemon Go game. The game will allow players to team up with four other friends and go on hunting quests, making the game even more interactive and fun.

There is still a lot to be unraveled, as the development team promised to add a crafting system to the game. None of the microtransactions have been revealed, but we believe it won’t be as predatory as other mobile games.
